Dinis and Isabel: Verses and Roses

D. Dinis (1261-1325) was an extraordinary king who developed the country economically and culturally: he founded the first university, established Portuguese as the official language of the court, was a poet, and ordered the planting of the Leiria pine forest. . . and married Isabella of Aragon (1271-1336), a notable queen who helped the people and who one day turned bread into roses: she became known as the Holy Queen.
